About the seminar

I organized the RMT@MSU learning seminar ran at Michigan State University in the Spring semester of 2023. It ran as a for-credit graduate reading course with course number MTH 890. Dr Brent Nelson was the faculty sponsor. Attendees of the seminar included myself, Eloy Moreno Nadales, Lubashan Pathirana, Aldo Garcia Guinto, Yoonkyeong Lee, Ming-Wei Kuo, Prof. Brent Nelson, and Prof. Jeffrey Schenker.

The initial goal of this reading seminar was to cover chapter 2 of Terence Tao's Topics in Random Matrix Theory. We only ended up getting to cover sections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 in this text. However, I am satisfied with the progress we made through the text, and feel that I, for one, have been thorouhgly introduced to random matrix theory, which was the goal!

Notes from the seminar

See the notes for the RMT@MSU seminar that ran in the Spring semester of 2023 at this link.

There are probably errors in the notes! The notes I wrote for the presentations I did myself were more of a rough draft of a presentation for the seminar, and kinks were oftentimes worked out in real time during the seminar. Sometimes I went back to the notes and fixed the issues, sometimes I didn't. Also, there is the nontrivial possibility that there are parts of the notes where there were errors that were not spotted out during the seminar!

I made a point of trying to take rather thorough notes. I was, however, being a bit overly ambitious with the scope of the notes. So, there are also quite a few incomplete parts of the notes. Moreover, there are some parts of the notes that were not written by myself, and I cannot vouch personally for these sections. Maybe someday I will be in the position to run another learning seminar on random matrix theory, at which point I will have the opportunity to polish up the notes. But, until then, these notes are scrappy as ever and open to the world to see.

The notes were last updated on April 16, 2023.
